Georgian premier heads government committee on religious affairs

The joint committee of the government and the Church on religious affairs will be headed by the prime minister of Georgia, Nika Gilauri, Georgia Online reports.

The move was agreed on at the meeting of the Holy Synod and the Parliament devoted to organizational issues of establishing the committee.

The committee will consist of representatives of the Georgian Orthodox Church and the government by 12 representatives of each side. Decisions will be made by 2/3 of votes.

The committee was established for effective dealing with current issues important to the Georgian Orthodox Church.
