EU doesn't respond to Turkey's criticism

The Turkish government’s harsh rhetoric criticizing the European Union
over the Cyprus issue has received no response from European officials
so far, but diplomats have warned all parties concerned to show vision
and not succumb to politics, Hurriyet Daily News reports.

“This is a well-established position from the Turkish side. We of
course hope the UN-sponsored talks achieve a political settlement
before July 2012, so this would become a meeting point,” an EU
diplomat told the Turkish news agency.

“It is all the more important that everyone involved – Cypriots, the
United Nations and the international community – show vision and not
descend to political point-scoring,” the diplomat said.

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has threatened to freeze relations
with the European Union if Greek Cyprus, not recognized by Ankara,
holds the bloc’s rotating term presidency as scheduled in the second
half of 2012.
