The main result of the second stage of the Individual Partnership
Action Plan (IPAP) of Armenia and NATO, that started in 2010, is the
reconsideration of Armenia's defense strategy, Defense Minister Seyran
Oganyan said, RIA Novosti reports.
Oganyan attended the meeting with NATO in the 28+1 format in Brussels today.
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian discussed the IPAP report
of the third project for 2011.
The IPAP was signed between NATO and Armenia in December 2005. Armenia
and NATO have regular consultations on regional security, development
of security strategy, Armenia's military doctrine, improvement of
defenses, budget planning and other issues.
Oganyan noted that a plan for the armed forces was developed for 2011-2015.
Armenia has 126 peacekeepers in Afghanistan.
The Armenian minister underlined the role of NATO expert group and
efforts of Canada, Romania, the Czech Republic, France, Italy and
Bulgaria.
Experts of the USA and UK are assisting in training sergeants,
improvement of discipline and operative efficiency of officers and
Sergenats.
NATO officials praised Armenian peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan
and Kosovo, especially its decision to triple the number of
peacekeepers in Afghanistan.
