One day after an attack by suspected members of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party killed three soldiers in the eastern province of Van and lightly injured the local district governor, a prominent figure of Turkey’s main pro-Kurdish expresses his hope that the month of Ramadan will lead to peace in society, Hurriyet Daily News reports.
“The news of death that comes every day and every hour shows us that there is a need greater than bread and water. The most immediate need
of society is peace,” Selahattin Demirtaş, the Peace and Democracy Party's deputy chairman, said on Tuesday.
“We hope that the month of Ramadan will lead to peace in society, which has been missed for a long time in Turkey. If blood is being shed, then the need for peace is urgent,” said Demirtaş.
