Russia gathers evidence on Georgian attack on South Ossetia

The Russian Investigation Committee has gather evidence on Georgia's
attack on South Ossetia, spokesman of the committee Vladimir Markin
said, ITAR-TASS reports.


Russia accuses Georgia of genocide and mass murders of its citizens,
peacekeepers and use of forbidden means of war.


The Georgian attack resulted in many peaceful citizens injured, 655
houses burned and over 2,100 destroyed. Over 16,000 citizens of South
Ossetia, mainly Russians, were forced to move.


Georgia attacked the Russian peacekeeping battalion on August 8-9,
2008. 10 servicemen were killed, 40 were injured. The military camp
was destroyed in the south-west of Tskhinvali.


The Georgian Prosecutor General's Office of the Justice Ministry
refused to cooperate with the Russian investigation. Copies of
evidence were sent to the International Criminal Court as part of the
case into violation of peace and human security. The Georgian suit
against Russia to the UN International Court in Hague was closed down
on April 1, the court did not find racial discrimination.


The investigation of over 600 more Georgian complaints against Russian
forces into crimes in over 60 villages continues. Over 1100 servicemen
were questioned. Documents were received from 50 Russian military
facilities.
