Russian President Dmitry Medvedev has discussed a fishing project in
Astrakhan, RIA Novosti reports.
Medvedev said that they fished together with Prime Minister Vladimir
Putin a few times on the Volga River. He asked the views of fishermen
on the new law.
A co-founder of the Russian Fishing Union, Oleg Saran, said that many
are discontent with the law, due to problems with fishing sites. He
said that many fishing areas were rented by businessmen. Saran
believes that the problem can be resolved by either handing water
resources to businessmen or allowing fishermen to pay annual fees.
The head of the Russian Fishing Agency, Andrey Krayny, clarified that
amendments to the law on fishing were passed in December 2010, forcing
purchase of permits. Only 0.01 of the total aquatorium is rented.
