Syria starts reforms

Syria has started reforms to fulfill the people's demands, Deputy
Foreign Minister Faisal al-Mikdad said, Trend reports.

The official said that President Bashar Assad's reforms are turning
Syria into a democratic state. The protests in the country were
organized by terrorists and gangs, he added. The military entered the
cities only when peaceful citizens were being killed and being thrown
into Al-Asy River in Hama and Homs, he went on.

The attempt to call a meeting of the UN Security Council for Libya is
interference in its internal affairs.

The protests in Syria started in Deraa in mid-March and spread to
other areas. Syrian human rights activists say over 1,600 people were
killed. The authorities say about 500 servicemen have died.

High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the
European Union, Catherine Ashton, said that President Bashar Assad had
lost legitimacy of power in the eyes of own people and needs to
resign. The EU is preparing a new package of sanctions. France,
Germany, UK and Spain support the EU position.
