Georgian Minister for Economy Vera Kobalia said that her country is
not against Russia’s membership of the World Trade Organization (WTO),
ITAR-TASS reports.
Georgia and Russia may reach an agreement at the talks in Switzerland
on September 12. Georgia demands that its customs control be restored
on the Georgian-Russian border. Cargo should be controlled the way it
is on the Russian-Finnish border.
Russian President Dmitry Medvedev was the first to announce the
possibility of a compromise with Georgia. The WTO talks may become the
starting point for restoration of Georgian-Russian economic and
diplomatic relations.
Russian president and prime minister noted earlier that they could
improve relations with the Georgian people but not with President
Saakashvili.
