Georgian-Russian talks on Russia’s membership in the World Trade Organizations (WTO) have brought no results, Georgian Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze said in Tbilisi today, RIA Novosti reports.
The fifth round of talks was held with mediation of the Swiss Foreign Ministry. The sides discussed Russian membership in the WTO.
The UK supports Russia’s bid to join the organization. British Prime Minister David Cameron is on a visit to Moscow.
Member of the opposition party in Georgia “Free Democrats”, Irakly Alasania, says that the WTO talks may be the trigger of a dialogue between the two states.
The WTO is an international organization for liberalization of international trade and regulation of trade-political relations. It consists of over 150 states. Usually joining the organization takes 5-7 years, in the Russian’s case – 18 years.
Georgia is the only organization to negotiate the membership approval with.
