Georgia will not sell controlling shares in state companies - prime minister

The Georgian government does not intend to sell controlling shares in state companies either now or in the future, Prime Minister Nika Gilauri said at today's Cabinet meeting, Trend reports.

He said the government's goal is to place on international exchanges 20, 30, maximum 49 percent of shares of strategic companies. Accordingly, these companies will again be managed by the government.

"As a result of such transactions, it will be possible to create new jobs, attracting hundreds of millions of dollars and promoting economic growth. This is a common transaction. Many countries have passed this way, and the shares of many state-owned companies are still placed on exchanges. The government is actively monitoring the situation on the international exchanges. At this stage, there is not most favorable situation, so the exact date of the transaction is unknown," Gilauri said.
