The Russian Parliament will vote on a bill that would allow regions to set their own holidays, according to local traditions. The bill was inspired by the scandal in Bashkyria where the court had banned Kurban-Bayram and Uraza-Bayram as holidays, ITAR-TASS reports.
The United Russia Party, including its members Pavel Krasheninnikov, head of the committee for civil legislature, and Oleg Morozov, the Vice-Speaker, supported the bill. Krasheninnikov represents Bashkyria, Morozov – Tatarstan. Article 112 of the Labour Code states that regions may set additional holidays to federal ones.
The Russian Supreme Court said that the republic's laws for Kurban-Bayram and Uraza-Bayram holidays violate the federal ones. Rustem Hamitov disagrees with the decision. Bashkyrian leader demanded permission for regions to set Kurban-Bayram and Uraza-Bayram as holidays.
