The Armenian police will receive 10 million euro as aid from the EU to improve drug control, Secretary of the National Security Council Artur Bagdasaryan said at an inter-department commission for drug addiction and drug control, News Armenia reports.
Armenian Deputy Police Chief Unan Pogosyan said that finances will primarily be spend on technical upgrades. A working group was formed at the commission to determine the need for re-equipment and dog training.
The group consists of officials from the police, National Security Service, Prosecutor General’s Office, Penal Department of the Justice Ministry, Committee for State Income, Military Police Chief Aram Ter-Saakyan and Chief Drug Doctor of the Healthcare Ministry Petros Semerjanyan.
Another commission was formed for organization of rehabilitation for drug addicts, initiated by the Ministry for Labour and Social Affairs.
Both groups will reports on their results at the National Security Council in January 2012.
