A deal on installing NATO anti-missile radar in Turkey will be followed with the entrance of US modified missile cruisers Aegis, with SM-2 missile modification (Block-3B), Trend reports.
Aegis will monitor the air space of Turkey.
A spokesman for the Turkish Foreign Ministry, Seljuk Unal, told about the NATO radar earlier. Installation of the radar was agreed in Lisbon last year.
The first stage of European anti-missile formation will be concluded this year. The radar station in Turkey will have the AN/TPY-2 system.
The second stage will be concluded in 2015. It includes setting of SM-3 interceptors (Block-IB) from naval and ground bases and sensors for a wider radius of monitoring.
The third phase will be concluded by 2018, it includes development and tests of SM-3s (Block-IIA).
The fourth stage will be concluded by 2020. It includes SM-3 (Block IIB) for better efficiency of medium- and long-range detection.
