The Syrian government should start reformation or resign, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev said at the Russian Security Council, RIA Novosti reports.
But such decision should not be made by NATO or other European states, but by the government of Syria, the president went on.
Syria has been having protests since March. Russia recognizes Syrian responsibility for bloodshed in the country. Russia refused to vote for the resolution against Syria at the UN Security Council. This saved Syria from the Libyan scenarios, Medvedev said.
Syria protested against Russia’s support of President Bashar Assad’s regime in September.
The UN human rights council announced that 2,900 people had died in clashes of opposition and the state authorities of Syria.
