Georgian President Mikhail Saakashvili on Friday received his French counterpart Nicolas Sarkozy at the presidential palace and awarded him the St Georges Order of Victory, Trend reports.
The French President made a one-day visit to Georgia on Friday as part of his Caucasus tour. During the visit, the two Presidents made a joint public speech on Liberty Square in the center of Tbilisi.
According to the press office, Saakashvili presented to the guest the projects implemented and planned in the country and talked with him in an informal manner. Sarkozy received an award from the Georgian President for his "special support for Georgia, protection of the sovereignty of the Georgian State and strong support for national interests," he said.
In turn, Sarkozy conferred on Saakashvili the highest award of France - the Order of the Legion of Honour.
According to Georgian media, Saakashvili announced that he told his French counterpart that he is ready to resume dialogue with Vladimir Putin, as he is returning to his presidential post anyway. “But he should know that we are a peer nation and he should treat us as such,” the President added.
