Georgia to agree to Russia WTO membership if border demands met

Georgia would allow Russia to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) in exchange for Russia allowing international observers to arrive at the Abkhaz and South Ossetian borders, Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Nino Kalandadze said today, News Georgia reports.

Another round of talks will be held on Tuesday. The previous was held on October 20 and was fruitless. Russia refuses to let international observers to monitor the Russian-Georgian border.

Russia and Georgia reopened talks in March 2011 under Swiss mediation. Georgian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergi Kapanadze said that Georgia wants international observers to monitor the Gantiadi -Adler and Roki - Verkhny Zaramag control posts, information exchange on freighting. The proposals were developed by Switzerland. Russia says that the issue is out of framework of the WTO talks.
