On October 21 New York City hosted elections of non-permanent members of the UN Security Council. Several rounds of voting which took place at UN headquarters, ended with no results. Azerbaijan and Slovenia failed to overcome the barrier in two-thirds of the votes necessary for joining the UN Security Council.
Azerbaijan lacked a total of 14 votes to win the elections. As a result, the voting has been postponed for Monday, October 24. Other new non-permanent UN Security Council members this year became Guatemala, Morocco, Togo and Pakistan.
