Russia and China demand that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) not publish reports on suspected Iranian tests with nuclear weapons, RIA Novosti reports.
Moscow and Beijing warn IAEA head Yukiya Amano against haste. Amano announced the reports on September 12.
Sides that presented confidential information on Iranian nuclear arms to the IAEA need to give permission for the information to be published. The information on a nuclear threat is expected to be published in November.
The US, UK and France insist on publishing the information to initiate new sanctions against Iran at the UN Security Council.
The Russian side believes that the initiative will put Iran off cooperation. Amano has not changed his plans, because he sees the need to inform the authorities of the IAEA about violations of the international obligations of Tehran.
The New York Times reported earlier that the US wants Tehran’s plans to be exposed. The idea to pressure the IAEA was being conceived before the US uncovered a conspiracy against the Saudi Arabian ambassador.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said last week that the negotiation process with the six mediators on Iran reached a stalemate. Russia wants to boost the talks. Lavrov underlined the need for Iran to fulfil the conditions of the UN Security Council. Although he noted that some states introduce unilateral sanctions.
