The Managing Director of the IMF, Christine Lagarde, is making her first official visit to Moscow and is expected to meet President Dmitry Medvedev, read a lecture at the State University of the Finance Ministry and hold a press conference at Interfax headquarters.
Interfax reports that Russia will become the first state visited by Lagarde, who replaced Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who had been the IMF head from November 2007 until May 2011. Unlike Michel Camdessu and Rodrigo Rato, the new IMF chief is making a visit to Moscow.
At the state university Lagarde will talk on global and regional policy, prospects for global economic development, the influence of the debt crisis on the euro zone and the situation in Russia. She will talk about cooperation and economic growth.
At Interfax the official will discuss the results of the visit to Russia. Director of the IMF section for foreign links Jerard Rice, deputy head of the section for European affairs of the IMF Yukh Kakhonen, IMF representative to Moscow Odd Per Brekk and Russian Executive Director to the IMF Alexey Mozhin will be at the meeting.
Christine Lagarde was a former French Minister for Economy and Finance.
