Obama continues sanctions against Iran

US President Barack Obama has prolonged sanctions against Iran, introduced in 1979 after the Islamic Revolution, RIA Novosti reports.

The fulfillment of deals signed in 1981 has not been realized. Sanctions will be prolonged after November 14, 2011.

The sanctions are prolonged annually. The sanctions were passed on November 14, 1979, after the revolution and attack on the US embassy in Tehran on November 4, 1979.

The US and Iran signed agreements with mediation of Algiers on January 19, 1981. The documents were to resolve the crisis with US hostages in Iran and restore relations between the two states.

The US promised not to interfere in Iran’s interior affairs, lift trade sanctions, unfreeze bank accounts. Iran promised to pay off the debt to the USA. Washington says Iran does not fulfill the agreements and threatens the world with its nuclear arms.
