Armenia, Georgia are single economic area – Tigran Sargsyan

Armenia and Georgia are viewed as a single economic field, Armenian Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said at a recent meeting with Georgian Minister for Economy and Sustainable Development Vera Kobalia, Armenia Today reports.


Sargsyan gave a high rating to the current state of relations between Armenia and Georgia. He expressed hope that the coming session of the inter-governmental commission for economic cooperation in Tbilisi will become a new step for development and strengthening of bilateral ties. All barriers for trade between the two states need to be removed, the PM says. 42 million euro will be invested with EU assistance in the next 2 years to have three  border posts meet the highest European standards. It would simplify customs procedures and improve quality of service. The Georgian side of the commission will propose discussions on formation of common customs points to simplify processes and border crossing.


Economy Minister Vera Kobalia expressed hope that the session on November 17-18 will discuss joint programs for various spheres of cooperation.


At the meeting the sides talked on construction of the Megri-Batumi highway, which will be 180 km long. It would reduce travelling time from Iran to the Black Sea. They also discussed cooperation in information technologies and industry.
