Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev told the Izvestia newspaper that he would want to join the Eurasian Union, a declaration on its formation will be signed by presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan on Friday.
The state also filed a request to join the Customs Union, Izvestia reports.
Strategic partnership with Russia is essential for Kyrgyzstan. The Social-Democratic Party said so back in 1993. A commission to grant Kyrgyzstan membership is already at work, Atambayev says.
The president noted that he would like to contribute to building a common economic space with Russia, Kazakhstan and Belarus.
Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin wrote about formation of the Eurasian Union in the Izvestia newspaper in early October. He described the formation of a Common Economic Space of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan with a grand market of 165 million consumers. It would be a higher integration level, Putin writes.
Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko and Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev commented on the idea in the Izvestia newspaper later.
