Realization of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline construction is not being dragged out by Russia, but by the financial problems of the European states interested in the project, Sergey Mikheyev, Director General of the Institute for Caspian Cooperation, told Vestnik Kavkaza.
The expert believes that Caspian states lack the political will to resolve the pipeline issue. Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan lack big interest in the project. Europe and the US have the main interest in its realization. Kazakhstan is neutral. There are chances for realization of the project.
Mikheyev says that the pipeline will only serve to split the region into the northern and southern sectors. Relations with Russia would be aggravated.
