Russian Air Force to get 60 new anti-missile units by 2012

The Russian Air Force will get 60 new and modernized anti-missile units, including the S-400 complexes, Nebo-U radars and Panstir-S1 anti-missile complexes, by 2012, spokesman of the Air Force, Colonel Vladimir Drik, told RIA Novosti on Thursday.


The Air Force will also receive 90 new and modernized planes and helicopters. This includes 10 new Su-34 bombers, about ten Su-25SM assault planes, a new striker Su-35S, demonstrated at MAKS-2011 in Zhukovsky. Su-35S belongs to the 4++ generation. Military aviation will also receive 20 new Mi-28N helicopters “Nigh Hunter” and Ka-52s “Alligator”, as well as modernized Mi-35Ms.


Nebo-U radars are used for detection and calculation of coordinates of air targets. The S1 Pantsir is used for minor military and administrative-industrial facilities and areas of planes, helicopters, cruise missiles and high-accuracy weapons. The Triumph (S-400) is an anti-missile system with a wide range. It is capable of shooting down any modern and prospect targets. Each S-400 complex can shoot up to 36 targets at the same time using up to 72 missiles.
