The Russian Caspian Sea coast guard service has received the Bal-E missile complex this year, ITAR TASS cites Colonel Igor Gorbul, spokesman of the Southern Military District. The Taifun factory is adjusting the radars.
The Bal-E coastal missile complex uses X-35 missiles developed for the Russian Navy in the late 1990s and adopted in 2008. It consists of a mobile command post and communication, launch sites and transport machinery. It consists of 11 special vehicles.
The complex has a range of 120 km and may operate at any time under any weather conditions. It needs 10 minutes to be put in a state of readiness. It has a fuel distance of 850 km and an ammunition capacity of 64 missiles, using 32 for one barrage. It is capable of neutralizing a large group of vessels, a marine group or a convoy. Launch sites may be located 10 km from the coast.
The Caspian Fleet will conduct at least 3 missile launches in 2012 as part of drills.
