PKK leader caught in Istanbul

A leader of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) has been arrested in Istanbul this morning, Trend reports.


Turkish Vice-Premier Bulent Arynzh says that they cannot name the suspect for security reasons. The suspect carries a great amount of information, the official says.


The conflict between Turkey and the PKK has been ongoing for 25 years and resulted in the deaths of over 40,000 people. The PKK demands the formation of an independent Kurdish state. The UN and the European Union recognize the organization as a terrorist one.
