Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan may adopt common currency - Putin

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin hopes that Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan will adopt a common currency. The states have not reached the same integration level as the European Union, but it is still a prospect for the future as part of the single economic space and formation of the Eurasian Union, he said.

The presidents of Russia, Belarus and Kazakhstan - Dmitry Medvedev, Alexander Lukashenko and Nursultan Nazarbayev - signed a declaration on Eurasian economic integration, the basic document for formation of the Eurasian Union. The idea to form such a union was announced by Nazarbayev back in 1994. In his article for the Izvestia paper, Putin announced a new step for integration - formation of the Eurasian Union from the Customs Union and the Single Economic Space.
