Experts see no missile threat from Iran

Iran lacks the technological or industrial potential for ballistic missile production, General-Lieutenant Sergey Karakayev, Commander of the Russian Strategic Missile Forces, said on Friday, RIA Novosti reports.

Western media have carried several reports on Iranian missile tests and missile technologies, but the Strategic Missile Forces doubt the ability of missiles to have enough range to reach Europe.

Vladimir Yevseyev, Director of the Center for Socio-Political Studies, told Vestnik Kavkaza that Iran is of no threat to Europe or own neighbors. He expressed hope that there will be no force used to settle the problem. Iran carries no nuclear or missile threat to Israel or any other states of the region. Attacking Iran would harm regional security or nullify it. The situation may affect the Middle East.

General Karakayev also said that Russia is developing an advanced intercontinental ballistic missile to supplement Yars and Topol. It will be adopted by 2015. Scientists are working on a new medium-class missile complex. Rearmament for the complex will happen by 2015, Karakayev said at the Main Headquarters of the Strategic Missile Forces in Vlasikha.
