North Korea says 'no change' in policies

Pyongyang does not plan to change policy towards South Korean government headed by President Lee Myung-bak, the North Korean National Defense Commission said after the funeral of Kim Jong-Il, RIA Novosti reports.

South Korea will have presidential polls in late 2012. President Lee Myung-bak may be reelected for the second term.

The North Korean National Defense Commission condemned South Korean authorities for prohibiting unsanctioned condolences over the death of the North Korean leader, who had attended meeting of Seoul and Pyongyang twice this decade.

Kimg Jong-Il died on December 17 from heart attack, aged 69.

President Lee Myung-bak came to power in 2008. He abandoned the previous 10-year old policy of rapprochement with North Korea due to the unresolved nuclear problem. Thus, cooperation of the two Koreas remains nullified. Projects developed between the North and South Korean heads in 2007 were ruined. Seoul laid responsibility for new military incidents on Pyongyang. Kim Jong-Il said that he would not want any cooperation with Lee Myung-bak. Kim Jong-Un is the successor of his father Kim Jong-Il.
