The Arab League is discussing the further presence of its monitors in Syria, RIA Novosti reports.
The statement was made to the background of continuing clashes between government and opposition forces. 315 people have died in Syria last week.
Vestnik Kavkaza reported that the Arab League had sent monitors to Syria to stop violence and start dialogue. The monitoring mission started on December 27, clashes have not ended, nonetheless. At least 10 people died on the first day of monitoring.
Ali al-Salem al-Dekbas said that the developments in Syria make presence of the monitoring group useless. The group gives the Syrian regime a cover to continue violence.
The monitoring mission is to study civilian deaths. The Arab League passed economic sanctions against Damascus.
The disorders in Syria started in mid-March. 5,000 people have already been killed in the anti-governmental protests, according to the UN. Syrian authorities say over 2,000 people died. Reports on casualties are made daily.
