Vladimir Yevseyev: Iran through the eyes of an observer

Against the background of the heightened tension in the situation around Iran, the threat of new sanctions against the country by the West, and the subsequent prevention of a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, which would greatly hinder exports of oil to world markets, a Russian expert takes a closer look at the Islamic state from the inside.

In mid-December, the director of the Center for Public Policy Research, Vladimir Yevseyev, visited Iran and met with representatives of the country, journalists and social activists. The expert shared his impressions with Vestnik Kavakza:

On democracy and hierarchy

The executive authorities of Iran seem to be fairly democratic in communicating, both with foreigners and with people working in the office. There is no poverty and no tension in society.
Judging by the cars, people live very poorly, at least in comparison with Moscow. However, the Iranians are modest and domestic. This is evident when comparing high-ranking officials with people at the bottom of the social ladder. Even those who can afford expensive things dress modestly.

Fatalists of religion
Iranians accept everything that is happening to them, as they are Shiites. They believe that if something is predetermined, it is pointless worrying about it. Therefore, they calmly and fearlessly look on the possibility of a military strike on Iran. Of course, they will resist. However, this does not cause nervousness in the society.
At the same time, there is a very strong internal organization in Iran.
On nuclear confidence

Iranians are great patriots. Especially in connection with the nuclear program. It is not even discussed. There is no doubt among Iranian people as to the peaceful orientation of the country's nuclear program.
