Fayeze Hashemi, daughter of former Iranian President Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, has been sentenced to 6 months of prison for antigovernmental protests, Associated Press reports.
The court prohibited Fayeze Hashemi to be involved in politics, cultural activities and media for 5 years. She has 20 days for appeal.
The former president's daughter was an antigovernmental activist in June 2009. She was arrested in February 2011. Her lawyer Holyam Ali Riahi said that the criminal case was initiated basing on interviews. The process started in December 2011.
Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani was President in 1989-1997. He ran for president in 2005 but lost to Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Incumbent President of Iran. Rafsanjani headed the Expediency Discernment Council, dismissed in March 2011.
One of his sons is suspected in cooperating with British intelligence services and disorders after the presidential polls in Tehran in June 2009. He is on the international wanted list.
