Olivier Bayi, an EU executive, said on Wednesday that the European Union may impose sanctions against Hungary for violating the principles and values of the union, Interfax reports.
The European Commission will probe the actions of Budapest and will punish the state if any violations should be found.
The Central Bank of Hungary had its independence limited by recent laws. They also cancelled the license for broadcasting of an opposition radio station. The laws were adopted by Fidesz, the political party headed by Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
