Escalation of the Syrian crisis may affect stability in Turkey, Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday, Trend reports.
Turkey announced new sanctions against Syria in late November, including freezing strategic cooperation, ban for visits of Syrian administration and businessmen involved in crime to Turkey, ban for cooperation with the Syrian Central Bank, freezing financial assets of Syrian President Bashar Assad and the government, ban for shipments of weapons to Syria from third states.
Syria has been stricken by continued anti-government protests for 9 and a half months. The UN said that over 5,000 had died. Syrian authorities said that over 2,000 servicemen and police officers have died in clashes with opposition. The government believes that the disorders were caused by foreign militants.
