US Deputy Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, Philip Gordon, said in Washington that there would be no new shipments of weapons from the Pentagon to Georgia in 2012, RIA Novosti reports.
The US will stress on training Georgian law enforcers. The two states will also cooperate in Afghanistan.
The official noted that the new US strategy does not involve any changes in forming the missile shield in Europe. This includes formation of anti-missile systems in Poland and Romania, the radar in Turkey and equipping US ships in Spain with the Aegis missiles.
Gordon noted that the US will keep presence in Europe and continue developing cooperation with European partners. The NATO and US are ready to negotiate tactical nuclear arms in Europe, but the Alliances would still remain a nuclear bloc.
The US said earlier that it is ready for such talks but needs a multilateral format with European allies attending. The new US defense strategy was presented to the administration last week.
