Arab League monitors injured by Syrian government supporters

Government supporters injured 11 monitors of the Arab League in Syria, league spokesperson Adnan al-Hodheir, said. A crowd expressing support for President Bashar Assad’s regime and waving state flags blocked a car convoy at Latakia. Some of them attacked the cars, RBC reports. No weapons were used in the incident.

There are 160 international observers operating in Syria. They are visit the most restless areas. General Muhammed Ahmed Moustafa ad-Dhabi, supervisor of the mission, said last week that the situation was peaceful.

The Arab Parliament expressed discontent with operation of observers and demanded their departure. Damascus permitted Arab League observers to start work on December 27, 2011. Their first visit was to Homs.
