The US has agreed with OSCE monitors, calling the Kazakh parliamentary polls of January 15 'undemocratic'.
Assistant press secretary of the US State Department Mark Toner said that they have hope for a multi-party parliament. Cooperation with the Kazakh parliament will continue. Kazakh attempts to improve the political climate and carry out fair elections are welcome, he notes.
The Nationwide Social Democratic Party that failed to enter parliament plans to organize protests on the central square of Alma-Ata, despite the city authorities disapproving such actions. The party received no permission for protests in other cities.
CIS and SCO monitors called Kazakh parliamentary polls free, open and clear, President Nursultan Nazarbayev said that the population had expressed support for his course.
Three parties passed the 7% barrier. Nazarbayev’s Nur Otan got 80.74% of vote, Ak Zhol – 7.46%, communists – 7.2%.
The Kazakh Central Electoral Commission will announce elections results after noon on January 17.
