Iran to replace Barbie dolls with drones

The morality police has banned Barbie dolls to protect the society from harm from the Western culture, decaying Islamic values, Payam reports.

The ban for Barbie dolls is part of the so-called “Soft War” of Iran against Western influence and a response to US sanctions. A shopkeeper in Tehran said that the morality police entered his toyshop three weeks ago and demanded all Barbie dolls to be removed.

The first statement against Barbies was made in Iran back in 1996. However, they were not banned. A group of Iranian youth decided to spend own finances to produce a toy drone resembling RQ-170 model.

A special ceremony dedicated to the 34th anniversary of Islamic Revolution in Iran will have a presentation of one of such toy drones on February 1. The toy drone will be 30x14 cm in size. One of them will be given to the US as a gift. It has an inscription “We will trample the US”. Each toy drone will be sold for $5. Iranian anti-air defenses shot an RQ-170 drone belonging to the US in early December 2011.
