Erdogan talks with Putin over Israeli raid

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin over the deadly Israeli raid on the Gaza aid flotilla. Erdoğan is reported to have told Putin that Turkey would not accept such an interception

Erdoğan shared the details of the interception with Putin. He said Turkey would seek for international justice over the incident. For his part, Putin expressed sorrow for the loss of the passengers aborad the Blue Marmara.

Putin reportedly stressed the importance of spending efforts in a bid to prevent conflict in the Middle East. He also showed support for the lifting of the Gaza blockade. The Russian premier added that the socio-economic situation of Palestinian territories shall be recovered. 

Meanwhile, the Russian Prime Ministry website reported Erdoğan’s invitation to Putin for an upcoming meeting in Istanbul on June 8. That meeting will cover cooperation and security measures for Asia. The Russian office said Putin had accepted the invitation.
