The passing of the bill on criminalization of denial of the Armenian Genocide is an attempt to make French laws meet European standards on xenophobia and racism. Denial of the Armenian Genocide is not part of European law, thus it violates the Constitution, Inopressa reports.
Professors Bertrand Mattieu and Anna Levaurde said that the bill casts doubts about the right of freedom of speech and research.
Legislatives interfere in historic research. Only a judge has the right to qualify denial of the genocide as a crime. The law is unconstitutional and useless because the judge cannot give definitions in facts.
