Iran plans to hold parliamentary talks on a bill to stop oil exports to Europe before the EU embargo on Iranian oil exports come into force, Chairman of the Iranian Parliamentary Committee for Energy, Emad Hosseini, said, RIA Novosti reports.
Another MP Nasser Soudani said that many members of parliament cannot wait to pass the bill so that not a single European state passing sanctions against Iran could by even a drop of its oil.
Soudani believes that the Western sanctions will hit Europe itself. Firstly, they will have no other state to replace their oil lacks and, secondly, the embargo would cause a dramatic rise of prices for oil. Purchasing Iranian oil through mediators would be costly, he adds.
Foreign ministers of 27 EU states met in Brussels on January 23 and approved the embargo on Iranian oil exports. The new package of sanctions includes a gradual ban on imports, purchases and transport of petroleum from Iran. The embargo will come into full force on July 1. The EU also banned sales of gold, diamonds and precious metals from Iran. Contracts concluded with Iran will stay in force until July 1, 2012.
