The European Union wants to cooperate with Tbilisi to form a common energy network of Georgia, Turkey and Bulgaria, Georgia Online cites Gunther Oettinger, European Commissioner for Energy, as saying at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Oettinger told Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri that Georgia is an important transit state for Europe.
Gilauri said that they had discussed the AGRI project, an initiative to transport liquefied gas to Europe. They noted its significance for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Romania. The three states and Hungary will negotiate the project with EU officials in a few months. Ukraine and some other Middle Asian states may be invited.
