Iran cautions against hasty moves on Syria

Iran's Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has lashed out at certain Arab states for lobbying the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on Syria and warned against a any reckless decision on Damascus, Press TV reports.

Syria's President Bashar al-Assad should be allowed some time to carry out his pledged reforms as the Syrian leader has taken considerable steps so far in this regard, IRIB quoted Salehi as saying in an interview with Lebanese Al-Akhbarnewspaper.

Hasty moves against Syria may bring about adverse consequences, he warned.

On January 27, the UN Security Council met to consider a draft resolution on Syria, which was presented to the UN body by Morocco. The draft supports an Arab League plan that calls on the Syrian president to resign and hand over power to a deputy to form a national unity government “with the opposition within two months.”

The United States, the United Kingdom and France have supported the new Arab League plan.
