Russian vice-premier does not want structure for ethnic policy

Russian Vice-Premier Dmitry Kozak believes that Russia does not need a single structure for inter-ethnic policy, RIA Novosti reports.

Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin is running for president. He proposed formation of a special state structure for ethnic policy, harsher measures for migrant registration and violators of migration laws. Migrants are to pass exams in the Russian language and legal basics.

Kozak noted that the inter-departmental working group organized for ethnic issues is capable of handling all tasks itself. He clarified that one executive structure is enough for problems with culture, education, mass media, federal relations, regional policy and finances.

The vice-premier clarified that a series of events had been organized to combat xenophobia. The SMIrotvorets contest, performances of national art groups in various regions, studies and a program for migrant adaptation were organized.

Chairman of Parliament Sergey Naryshkin agreed with Kozak. He explained on Friday that ethnic issues are under the supervision of the Ministry for Regional Development. As an alternative, the official proposed formation of an inter-departmental platform for talks on the problem.
