Former Turkish intelligence heads to be arrested

The Istanbul Prosecutor's Office made the decision to arrest former head of the Turkish National Intelligence Organization, Emre Taner, and his former deputy, Afet Gunes. The Istanbul Security Department accuses them of colluding with Kurdish separatists and negligence in resisting the banned Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK), Trend cites the TRT Haber TV channel as saying.

Taner served as the head of the Turkish intelligence till 2010.

The link of the Union of Communities in Kurdistan is thought to be with the PKK's urban wing. It was widely discussed after several professors and activists were arrested.

The suspects were charged with involvement in various crimes, including belonging to a terrorist organization, facilitating terrorist activities and attempting to destroy the integrity of the country.
