Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu held negotiations in Washington, TRT reports.
Davutoglu discussed the Syrian crisis and ways of coping with it. Turkey and the US expressed support for the “Friends of Syria” international conference in Tunisia on February 24.
Davutoglu met Tom Danil, Advisor of US President Barack Obama for National Security, State Secretary Hillary Clinton and Defense Secretary Leon Panetta.
Clinton expressed support for a peaceful settlement of the conflict and the resolution proposed by the Arab League. The sides emphasized a common attitude to the regional crisis.
Messages that the UN Security Council failed to pass should be passed from Tunisia, Davutoglu said. The common goal is humanitarian support for the Syrians, he says.
The Turkish minister said that the population on the border with Syria will receive aid regardless of nationality, religion or origin.
The sides discussed the Iranian nuclear program, inter-religious tensions in Iraq, the situation in Cyprus, the Balkans and the Caucasus and stressed the need to combat terrorism.
