Ukrainian and Russian special services have prevented plans by terrorists to assassinate Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, the First Channel reported on Monday.
The assassins, some of whom were on the international wanted list, were caught in Odessa. They planned to kill the prime minister in Moscow after the presidential polls. An investigation is continuing.
Ukrainian media reported earlier that the Alfa Special Group caught two militants in early February, suspected of planning a terrorist attack, RIA Novosti reports.
The Main Directorate of the Ukrainian Interior Ministry in the Odessa Region initiated a criminal case for murder in an explosion on 24 Tiraspolskaya Street in early January, which resulted in the death of a 26-year old Russian and injuries to a 28-year old Kazakh citizen. Adam Osmayev, a third person caught in the blast, escaped the scene.
Ukranian police reported about the incident to Russia on January 6. Ilia Pyanzin, the survivor, said that he arrived from the Arab Emirates through Turkey with Ruslan Madayev with instructions from Doku Umarov. They were trained to construct bombs and were ordered to prepare the assassination of Putin.
Adam Osayev has been on the wanted list for 3 years. He said that his dead henchman was to become a suicide bomber. Osmayev was to train him.
The police found a laptop with plans to realize the assassination.
Ukrainian media reported that Adam Osmayev’s father, Aslanbek, was also detained. They are suspected of organizing an explosion in Moscow on 9 May 2007, under the supervision of Doku Umarov.
