The French National Assembly may have no time to discuss the second draft of the controversial Armenian genocide law, the house's press service informed.
The bill was approved in January by the French Parliament, but the Constitutional Court canceled it as violating freedom of speech.
President Nicolas Sarkozy then ordered a new draft to be elaborated.
Talking to VK about the situation, fellow of the Moscow State Institute for Foreign Affairs Andrey Kazantsev said that President Sarkozy's eagerness to have this bill ratified is probably based on his desire to collect Armenians' votes. The situation is now hard for Sarkozy, the socialist candidate is the front runner and the president is doing his best to change the current state of affairs, Kazantsev says.
According to him, the issue will be suspended after the elections. "Why would he quarrel with Turkey?" Kazantsev asks rhetorically.
Azerbaijani political analyst and member of parliament Rasim Musabekov told VK that Sarkozy is far from thinking about the alleged genocide itself. The only thing he is now focused on is the coming presidential elections, the expert believes.
