Iran has started parliamentary polls at 8 am, Trend reports.
Voting will last until 6 pm, the interior minister may prolong the voting process if necessary, Chairman of the State Electoral Commission Sulyat Murtavazi said.
3467 candidates are running for 290 parliamentary seats. 46062 polling stations were opened, 14307 of them are mobile.
Vote results will be announced in about 48-72 hours after March 2.
Iran is using electronic voting mechanism for the first time, available at 14 provinces.
A candidate needs 2/3 of vote to win. Getting less than two thirds means electoral district will hold the second round of vote.
About 50,000 observers monitor the process. 85,000 volunteers from the Islamic Revolutionary Guards Corps are enforcing security.
Conservatives are only running for parliament in Tehran. The Single Front of Conservatives headed by Ayatollah Mohammedrza Mandavi Keni, Front of Stability of the Islamic Revolution headed by Ayatollah Mohammedtagi Misbah Yazdi, Resistance Front headed by Mohsin Rezai, Voice of People headed by Ali Mutahhari and Understanding and Revival headed by Shahabeddin Sadri are conservative.
Iran holds parliamentary polls once in four years. The parliament of the seventh calling was organized on March 14, 2008, under chairmanship of Ali Larijani.
The first session was held on May 27, 2012.
