BRICS to negotiate positions on Syria, Iran

BRICS leaders plan to attend a summit in India to discuss the Iranian nuclear program and Syria, Russian Presidential Assistant Arkady Dvorkovich said, RIA Novosti reports.

The summit will be held in New Deli on March 28-29. The leaders plan to reach common grounds and coordinate their speeches at other platforms, including the UN.

BRICS consists of Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, the five states with active economic development. BRICS was formed in September 2006, when Russian President Vladimir Putin held the first meeting with foreign ministers of its members at the UN General Assembly in New York.

The UN Security Council announced support of initiatives on Syria, proposed by Kofi Annan, special representative of the UN and Arab League, on March 21.

Protests in Syria are continuing for over a year. The UN says about 8,000 people have died. Syrian authorities say over 2,000 law enforcers died in clashes with well-trained militants.
